Ceramic chips were introduced in the mid 1980s as an alternative to clay poker chips as they are more durable. Many casinos around the world use ceramic chips because of their high quality. Ceramic Chips are generally preferred over composite poker chips and most clay composite poker chips. Ceramic poker chips have an unmistakable textured surface that is slightly gritty. The graphics are printed directly on the chip as opposed to an inlay or sticker used on clay chips.
Ceramic Chips are not weighted in the center. They weigh 10 grams and are approximately the same weight as a casino poker chip. The entire ceramic chip is a canvas and you are not limited by edge spots or chip engraving for your creative design. You can make the entire chip whatever you want. You are able to design the face of the chip as well as the edge of the chip.
Use these high-end poker chips to protect your game from outsiders or just to impress your friends. Everyone will be amazed at the quality and the design of your own in-house poker chip.
Below are some examples of custom ceramic chips.

Why would I want to customize my chips?
People customize their poker chips for a couple different reasons. First, customizing your chip set allows you to decide what your chips look and feel like. Being able to choose the makeup of the chips(ceramic, composite, clay) is important because it affects the feel and weight of the chip. Also, depending on which kind of customization you choose, you can make your chips look however you want. Second, it provides security to your home game or local tournament.
Customized chips protect against people bringing in their own chips that match the standard chip sets many people have.
What is the advantage of custom ceramic?
Ceramic chips are the highest quality custom chips that we offer. They are used in many casinos and the whole poker chip is able to be customized. Ceramic chips are 10 grams each. Ceramic Chips have the design printed directly on the chip, unlike clay chips which require an inlay. The design is printed directly on the surface, so there is no chance of it peeling away from the chip. The entire face of the chip is customizable. Also the edge of the poker chip is customizable.
The authentic look and feel of a ceramic chip is unmistakable The chalky / gritty feel of this poker chip will tickle the senses and make your poker game a sensation.
Why are ceramic chips more expensive?
Ceramic chips are more expensive because they are higher quality and are more customizable than the other custom options. They are used in many casinos and have the weight and feel that many people prefer. The manufacturing process as well as the raw materials are more expensive. This results in a wonderful product with a slightly higher cost.
Who creates the design?
You! At the very least you will tell us what you want the chips to look like. We offer artwork
assistance in any phase of the chip design. You choose how involved you want to be in the process. You can design the entire chip yourself, or give us an idea and see what we come up with. Your level of involvement is up to you. The final say, of course, is always yours.
What can I customize on the chip?
For these ceramic chips, pretty much everything is available for customization. When creating a new chip, we start off with a blank white ceramic disc. The only aspects that are not customizable are the weight and size of the chip. You choose the color of each chip, the design, the edge-spots, the
denomination and the breakout. You will have full control of your poker set.
What are these chips made of?
These are ceramic chips. They are 100% ceramic.
How much do the chips weigh?
These chips will weigh 10 grams each.
How long will they last?
The average ceramic chip produced for a casino is expected to last around 1-2 years. This is an industry guideline based on heavy play. In a home environment, they should last significantly longer.
Are these like casino chips?
Yes. These are similar to many casino poker chips. Not all casinos use ceramic, so they may not be like the chips you are used to, but they are extremely high quality. Many casinos use this type of chip.
How are these different than casino chips?
They are only different to casinos that use clay chips (as mentioned before, some casinos use ceramic chips). The vast majorities of authentic casino chips are "clay" chips but can be more accurately described as compression molded chips. Contrary to popular belief, no gaming chip going as far back as the 1950s has been 100% clay.
Modern clay chips are a composition of materials more durable than clay alone. At least some percentage of “clay” chips is of an earthen material such as sand, calcium carbonate, chalk and/or clay. The process used to make these chips is a trade secret, and varies slightly by manufacturer, most of them being relatively expensive and time consuming per chip.
The primary difference between clay casino chips and ceramic poker chips is the cost. Many casinos pay $1-$1.25 per chip, when they choose to use clay chips on their tables.
Clay Chips, as opposed to Ceramic Chips, will use an inlay to place a design on the poker chip. They will also engrave something unique on the chip, such as a hat and cane (Paulson) or the city and state. This is to further make a clay chip more unique to ensure against fraudulent copies. A Ceramic Chip is printed on from the center to the edge.
Both chips stack and play professionally. Many people would not be able to tell the difference between a ceramic chip or a clay chip when in the casino environment. Both weigh about 10 grams and both will stack, cut and riffle as well as any poker player would want.
How much do they cost?
See the pricing above.
What does chip design cost?
We actually offer 30 minutes of free artwork for every $200 spent. So a 1000 count set that costs $690 would come with 1 1/2 hours of design work for free. If extra artwork is needed, we charge $50 an hour to complete the design.
If this isn’t the chip for me, which one is?
These chips may not be right for everyone. Maybe you prefer the feel of a clay composite chip, or are looking for something a little more affordable. The next step down is the custom inlay. The custom inlay features clay composite 11.5 gram chips - 14 gram chips that have a blank inlay that you design. To check out our custom inlay page, click here. |
